Pedestal Mounted
EV Charger
Bournemouth
This Bournemouth property had no suitable wall structure to mount a standard home EV charger. With only a stacked concrete block retaining wall and a narrow brick pier, neither could safely support the physical weight or structural fixings of a charging station. We engineered a freestanding pedestal-mounted solution instead.

The Wall-Mount Challenge
Installing a home EV charger is usually a straightforward task of mounting the unit directly onto a house wall. However, this property presented a unique structural challenge: there was absolutely no suitable wall structure near the driveway.
The boundary of the parking area consists of a stacked concrete block retaining wall and a very narrow brick pier. Because these structures were old and lacked mechanical strength, they could not take the heavy fixings or support the ongoing strain of a daily-use EV charger. Standard anchors would have shattered the concrete blocks, leading to structural instability.
Rather than settling for an unsafe or awkward compromise, we designed and installed a premium, freestanding mounting pedestal. This secure structural post allows the charger to be positioned exactly where it is needed without relying on weak boundary walls.
Structural Setting-Out
Concrete-Anchored Base Plate
The pedestal is bolted through a heavy-duty base plate directly into the existing solid concrete driveway rather than being dug into soft ground. This ensures that the post stays perfectly vertical and plumb even under the constant daily tension of a charging cable being pulled and plugged in.
Zero Footpath Obstruction
The post was positioned deliberately inside the property boundary rather than near the pavement edge. This ensures that nothing overhangs the public footway, completely eliminating any trip hazards or civil obstructions for passing pedestrians.
Strategic Reach Placement
By siting the pedestal at the very head of the parking space, the tethered lead reaches the vehicle charging port comfortably without running across the main steps leading to the front door, maintaining clear pathways.
Protected Cable Routing
The supply cabling is run in flexible, high-impact conduit down the rear of the post and along the retaining wall. It is clipped securely clear of the ground to prevent contact with wet leaf litter and standing winter puddles.
Canopy Weather Protection
We fitted a dedicated protective weather canopy over the charger. Sheltering the unit and the socket from direct rain and wind-driven moisture is highly critical on an exposed front driveway to maximize the lifespan of the electronics.
"When standard walls or fences are structurally inadequate, a freestanding concrete-anchored pedestal provides a perfectly safe, stable, and highly professional mounting alternative for your home EV charging station."
