Project Overview & Needs

What the Client Needed

The client wanted a dedicated EV charging point at home rather than relying on public chargers or a standard socket. They needed a tidy installation that would work well with the layout of the driveway and keep the charging cable easy to reach.

The property had a suitable exterior brick wall close to the driveway, making it a practical position for a wall-mounted charger. SC Electric planned the installation to keep the charger easy to access while keeping the visible cabling exceptionally neat, integrated, and secure.

Installation Process

Pre-Installation Checks

We began by assessing the incoming supply and confirming the maximum demand of the property. We confirmed the earthing arrangement and ensured the existing installation could safely handle the additional load of a 32A EV charger.

Circuit Routing & Protection

A new dedicated circuit was installed from the consumer unit to the charger location. We fitted a dedicated 40A Type A RCBO alongside surge protection to ensure full compliance with the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).

Hypervolt Unit Mounting

The Hypervolt Home Pro unit was securely mounted to the exterior brickwork. We used UV-stable black conduit to protect the final cable run, keeping the installation exceptionally neat and weather-resistant. The unit was leveled perfectly and secured with anti-tamper fixings.

The homeowner now has a safe, convenient and properly protected home EV charging point in Christchurch.

By installing a dedicated protective enclosure, we were able to work with the property’s existing electrical arrangement while still providing the RCBO protection, surge protection and circuit separation required for the charger. The final installation is practical, securely mounted and positioned for straightforward daily use without obstructing the doorway or driveway.

The charger can provide up to 7.4kW on a suitable single-phase supply, subject to the vehicle, property supply and configured charging limit.
