Cloakroom
Electrical
Installation in Moordown, Bournemouth
A cloakroom in Moordown, Bournemouth BH9, finished in deep blue panelling and large-scale botanical wallpaper. The electrics were chosen to suit it: a twin-globe brass wall light above the basin, LED strip lighting along the shelf above the WC, and a wall-mounted extractor fan to keep the room ventilated.

Project Brief
This cloakroom in Moordown had been decorated with real commitment: deep blue panelling to dado height, a large-scale botanical wallpaper above it, a green vessel basin with a brass tap, and a wall-hung WC with a black flush plate. In a room this dark and this patterned, the lighting decides whether the wallpaper reads as a feature or disappears into the shadows.
The brief covered three items. A decorative twin-globe wall light above the basin, LED strip lighting along the back of the shelf above the WC so the wallpaper is lit from below, and an extractor fan high on the wall.
This is one example of the bathroom and cloakroom electrical work we carry out as an electrician in Bournemouth, covering Moordown, Winton and the rest of BH9 alongside the wider BCP area.

Lighting a Dark, Patterned Cloakroom
Dark paint and busy wallpaper absorb light, so a single ceiling light tends to leave a small room flat and gloomy. Here the light comes from two heights instead. The twin-globe wall light sits at the top of the wall above the basin and lights the basin, tap and the upper half of the room, with opal glass globes that spread the light evenly rather than throwing glare onto the brass. Lower down, the LED strip at the back of the shelf grazes up the wallpaper, picking out the birds and flowers and giving the room a soft glow at low level.
An Extractor Fan for a Cloakroom WC
A room with a WC needs extract ventilation. Building Regulations Approved Document F sets a minimum intermittent extract rate of 6 litres per second for sanitary accommodation, which is why an extractor fan is part of almost every cloakroom we wire. Here a low-profile fan is mounted high on the wall near the ceiling, where moist air collects, and its slim white housing keeps it from competing with the wallpaper.
